Ballet Folklorico Sol de San Antonio

 Alynna Martin

Artistic Director/Founder

Ballet Folklórico SOL de San Antonio (BFSDSA) was founded from the vision and passion of its Artistic Director and Choreographer, Alynna Martin.

Ms. Martin, a native of San Antonio, Texas, began her dance training at a young age, studying Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, and Mexican Folklórico at local dance institutions. She has continued to refine her craft through extensive workshops and professional training, dedicating countless hours to the advancement of her technique and artistry.

Alynna Martin earned her Associate Degree in Dance from San Antonio College and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts at the University of Texas at San Antonio, with a minor in Dance.

Throughout her career, Ms. Martin has performed in a wide range of prestigious productions, including Merry-Achi Christmas with Mariachi Sol de México for two consecutive years, performances with Mariachi Los Camperos in Amarillo, Texas, Ballet San Antonio’s The Nutcracker, The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio, Ballet Folklórico Mexicano de Carlos Moreno (Oakland, CA), Viva México with Ballet Folklórico de Amalia Hernández in Houston and Dallas, Fiesta with Ballet Folklórico de Texas (Austin, TX), Sima Ballet Folklórico (Dallas, TX), and Dancing Across Cultures (Denver, CO), among others.

She has also proudly performed at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo for five consecutive years, further solidifying her presence in San Antonio’s cultural arts scene.

Ms. Martin’s passion for folklórico was ignited at the age of 12 when she joined a renowned San Antonio folklórico group. While balancing rigorous training in both classical ballet and folklórico, she developed a deep commitment to the art form. As her passion grew, she pursued competitive folklórico, earning top honors as both a soloist and group performer.

Recognizing a gap in advanced folklórico training within San Antonio, Ms. Martin expanded her experience by performing with groups in other cities to continue developing her skills. Her exposure to high-level training and competition inspired a larger vision: to elevate folklórico in her hometown.

In 2019, she brought together a group of dancers to compete—an experience that marked the beginning of Ballet Folklórico SOL de San Antonio. What began as a single competition project quickly evolved into a thriving organization. Driven by her belief that San Antonio should be a leading hub for folklórico, Ms. Martin established BFSDSA to provide strong, authentic, and high-quality training while celebrating and preserving Mexican culture through dance.

Today, Ms. Martin leads with purpose and passion, mentoring the next generation of dancers and continuing to build a program rooted in discipline, cultural pride, and artistic excellence.
